Event Description:

Valley Theater Company will welcome community theater companies from throughout Washington State to perform on the Princess Theatre stage in Prosser for Kaleidoscope 2019. The festival will take place Wednesday, February 27 through Sunday, March 3, 2019. Washington State Community Theatre Association (WSCTA) sponsors the biennial event in odd-numbered years.

The festival is a celebration of theatre for participants and the public. It is also a competition, a first step in the American Association of Community Theatre festival cycle (AACTFest) that includes state, regional, national and international competitions.

The public is invited to attend every performance of Kaleidoscope 2019 or just sample a few. Participating companies and their play selections are: Academy of Children’s Theatre, Emotional Baggage; Edmonds Driftwood Players, Silent Sky; Spokane Civic Theatre, Bug; Spokane Stage Left, Closing It Up; Stage West Community Theatre, The Savannah Sipping Society; Tacoma Little Theatre, The Pillowman; The Bellingham Theatre Guild, Almost Maine; The Changing Scene Theatre Northwest, Metacycle; The Richland Players, Vanities; The Rude Mechanicals, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised]; Valley Theater Company, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change Act I.

Date/Time Information:

Performance sessions will be Thursday evening, February 28; Friday afternoon and evening, March 1 and Saturday morning, afternoon and evening, March 2. Times for each session and the session participants will be announced publicly February 1. All performances are open to the public; however in accordance with AACT festival rules, patrons are seated on a first come-first seated basis, no one may be seated after a performance begins and anyone who leaves the theatre auditorium may not return during a performance.

Attendees should be aware that AACT policy permits the widest possible range of dramatic material to be performed and does not permit censorship of any company’s production. Some Kaleidoscope productions will include adult content. Entries may range from musicals to serious dramas to comedies.

Festival passes, which allow entry to all performances over three days, will cost $25; passes for a single day (with two to six performing theatres) will cost $10-$20. Passes are available online. Passes also will be available at the theatre box office prior to all performance sessions. Please note: All passes purchased via the website will be available at “will call” and will not be printable.

The host hotel, Holiday Inn Express in Prosser, has a block of rooms reserved for Kaleidoscope participants. Every Kaleidoscope participant and attendee will receive a set of coupons for discounted meals at various Prosser eateries. The Prosser Chamber of Commerce and Historic Downtown Prosser Association offer suggestions for other activities for all ages.
